Old Style Pilot Jam nuts

I have an Old Style Pilot with the old style double threaded platen bolts. None of them are snapped but at least two seems to have to much “play”, that is, they don’t hold their position for too long after adjusting to the right height. Maybe the threaded holes are a bit worn, maybe it’s the bolts themselves, haven’t taken them out to investigate yet. Which leads me to why I’m asking this wonderful lettterpress community the following questions:
What is the procedure for removing double threaded bolts? and,Is it possible, that when reinstalling them, I can slip a few jam nuts on the threads to help them hold an adjustment? (similar to the new style setup).
Have had some pretty rookie success printing poly - p plates on Lettra, but end up having to do an extraordinary amount of make ready as the day goes on, or just bite the bullet and recalibrate.
Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions or instructions, this is a great resource of information and I only hope I get to the point where someday I’ll be knowledgeable enough about something (anything !! ) to return the favor. - Ray

C&P Pilot platen bolts came
in a variety of styles. I believe all platen bolts originaly had jamb nuts to lock the radial location of the bolt. Of the platen adjustment bolts that have double threads … one set is right handed and the other left handed. Explaining the process further will require understanding which press you have, e.g. original (O.S.) or improved. Contact me off line and I will walk you through the process.
