Any way to tell how old my Kelsey excelsior is?

I’d like to know how old my Kelsey press is… From what I’ve seen, it is likely an “older model” due to the fact that the ink disk rotates counter-clockwise on the down stroke. There is no model identification on the body apart from “the excelsior”, “made in usa”, and the company address on the handle. anyone know the time period these “older model” excelsiors were made? Thanks.

Look for the serial number on top of the press bed.

Thanks oprion, but my press is missing the chase bed… Planning to make a new one, so I don’t have that serial number unfortunately :(.

Sadly this wouldn’t help you, but just for the benefit of posterity, here’s handy Kelsey Serial Number Guide that I put together some time ago.

My model O was made in 1941 - If yours turns counterclockwise, its older than mine
