Make Your Own Painted Leather Travel Journal
Sunday, June 7 12 - 5pm
In this workshop, each student will learn the basic principles of book binding while making a completely customized and unique soft cover leather travel journal. We will start by cutting, stamping and painting raw leather to make the perfect cover. Then we will learn how to prepare and sew the paper to the cover to make a long lasting, sturdy travel journal. Each student will leave this class with new skills and a sincere appreciation for this ancient craft.
Letterpress Business Cards (or calling cards)
Sunday, June 14 12 - 5pm
In this workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of letterpress printing on a table-top platen press by creating their own business cards. Students will learn how to set type, lock up a form, ink and adjust the press, print, and clean the press. We will learn a brief history of Letterpress while experiencing the collaborative nature of the craft. Each student will leave with a stack of their own custom letterpress printed business cards (or calling cards.)
This class will certify you to use our lead type and table top presses during open studio hours.
Introduction to Linoleum Block Printing
Sunday, June 21 12 - 5pm
Relief Printing is the oldest form of printmaking. This course is designed to teach students how to “think print” while carving away at a linoleum block.Then how to use that block to make multiple prints and how to layer images on top of one another. Students will get a sense of how it feels to work in a communal space surrounded by artists with similar interests. Students will also learn how to use and respect a large fine art press. Students will leave the class with a basic working knowledge of shop etiquette, linoleum carving, and printing techniques as well as a small portfolio of prints and their own linoleum block.
This class will certify you to reserve and use our etching press during open studio hours
Sunday, June 28 12 - 5pm
This workshop is designed to teach students the fundamentals of Letterpress printing while they design and print their own post cards. Students will learn how to set type, lock up a form, and print using a Vandercook SP15 proofing press and a tabletop platen press. The new printers will learn a brief history of Letterpress while experiencing the collaborative nature of the craft. Students will leave with a stack of their own letterpress printed postcards.
This class will certify you to use our collection of lead type and vintage image cuts and table top presses during open studio hours.
