Midget Reliance Iron Hand Press No. 701 Mfg by Paul Shniedewend & Co Chicago IL
Platen size: 14 ½ x 18 ¾
Bed size: 17 x 21
The press is about 63 inches tall and has a floor footprint of about 42 inches by 54 inches plus whatever space needed for the operator(s) of the press.
Several parts were made to get this press back into printing condition. The new parts include: fulcrum, toggle lever, corner brackets, outer and inner tympan, frisket, rounce handle, rounce straps, forestay, chase and platen bearers.
This is not a museum restoration. The style of some new parts is more similar to Albion presses than the Midget Reliance. There are two known flaws to the press. There is a small chip on the end of one of the rails. The chip does not affect the movement of the bed, but may allow a little oil to leak off of the rail. There is also a small piece chipped off of one of the legs of the press.
The press is located in Springfield, Virginia. If interested, you are welcome to try the press, weather permitting. I can assist with the disassembly and loading, but two people are not enough to do it safely - especially when one of them (me) has limited lifting ability. I can rent an engine hoist to do some heavy lifting if desired. The buyer is responsible any packing, shipping costs or arrangements. Only a few tools would be needed to disassemble and reassemble the press. We can include a set of tools with the press.
We would like to see this press be used and enjoyed. We would consider $3500. Please feel free to contact us about the press or to propose an alternate offer.
