Italian Letterpress (Large Print Area)

We are selling our distinctive yellow and green Italian flatbed press after more than fifteen years of happy use for $1500 or best offer.

Created in the 1970s-1980s as a letterpress for art printing by “Fonderia Tipografica Cooperativa,” an Italian typefoundry, this machine can take very large sheets of paper, easily 18” wide and 26” long. It has a much bigger printing area than most Vandercooks. The feed works differently from a Vandercook, so heavier sheets don’t slap down as they fall, which aids in registration and you can use much heavier stock than a Vandercook would accommodate, because it doesn’t have to roll. The grippers and feed guide make for good registration and the impression roller pressure is adjustable by an easy-to-use dial.

The carriage motor is not working at the moment due to a worn down “worm gear,” but we have have been using it manually with no trouble. A hand-crank could easily be installed. The motor for the inking mechanism works well. (The parts and motor for the carriage return mechanism are included in case you want to try to fix it.)

Included with the press is

• a large Boxcar base in excellent condition
• assorted large furniture (we have more if you need it)
• some large quoins and a lockup bar
• special adjustment tools for the roller height
• extra rollers
• more reglets and leading available if you need it no additional charge

Shipping not included. Buyer would need to arrange shipping or pickup. It can be lifted onto dollies with four people quite easily, and we can help load it up. There is a freight elevator in the building and a convenient loading dock in our courtyard.

We hope to move it out by the end of 2020.
