Red Bat Press is a small art press located in Portland, Oregon featuring the art and design work of artist Carye Bye. The press was officially introduced in September 2002. The focus is hand-set letterpress type with hand-colored woodcut illustration. So far it is a one-woman operation from design, to hand carving blocks, to printing and selling. The press creates art postcards, calendar cards, valentines, and note cards all printed on a table-top letterpress. Occasional custom jobs are also produced upon request - anything from business cards, to wine labels, to custom postcards or cards. Bye also volunteers and teaches at the Independent Publishing Resource Center in hopes to bring the delight of ‘Old-time Printing’ to other printers-to be.
