Monks and Friars Chappel

The monks and Friars Chappel was founded in 1962, as a printing chappel for letterpress printers in the Detroit area. It now serves all letterpress printers in southeast Michigan. The group meets on the second Saturday of each month, with a few exceptions. Meetings are at member’s homes and print shops, and occasionally at institutions related to letterpress printing. They print a cooperative calendar each year, which is collated during a yearly banquet in December.

The main function of the group is to preserve the craft of letterpress printing, and does so through building community. Meetings are for socializing, showing each other our latest works, helping with equipment and materials, and talking about what can be done to better strengthen the community.
