Barbarian Press is the private press of Crispin & Jan Elsted. It was established in 1977 in England, and moved to B.C. in 1978. We publish limited editions of poetry & belles lettres, illustrated classics, books on books, & in particular books on & with wood engravings, using hand-set type. We have 3 handpresses, 2 Vandercooks, & 2 C&Ps. We occasionally take on an apprentice, and run a 6-day introductory workshop every June.
