CC Stern Type Foundry

The C.C. Stern Type Foundry is a working museum of metal type & casting equipment, dedicated to preserving the heritage of America’s typecasting industry; educating visitors of all ages in the history of metal type & typography, its continued design influence & modern applications; and inspiring graphic artists & printers to pursue new directions using traditional practices.

The museum honors the memory of C. Christopher Stern, who built & operated the foundry at Stern & Faye, Printers, of Sedro-Woolley, WA. We have continued to add machinery to the original collection, growing our capabilities to demonstrate the processes of casting printing type.

The Foundry is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, located in Northeast Portland. Open the 3rd Saturday of each month & by appointment.
