Yellow Pages listing edit

This might be an unpopular policy, but we’ve decided to make changing Yellow Pages listing categories somewhat difficult. Right now, only site admins can do it.

The reason: we’ve found that some people like to choose as many categories as possible, even when some of those categories don’t really apply. It’s an understandable impulse, because a listing with more categories selected is more frequently found by users.

However, when the same listings start showing up repeatedly for no good reason, the usefulness of the system as a whole declines. I thought about limiting each listing to one category, but that seems too restrictive. So, for now, we’re going to keep a tight reign on category changes. At least until it becomes too much to maintain.

I can see how that can happen. All of a sudden everyone is listed in every category. Less redundancy.
