STEREOTYPING

I was a Tradesman Stereotyper in Australia until changing Technology wiped out this Trade for me in 1978, I was wondering if Stereotyping is active any where in the world.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Cliff

I have bought quite a few stereotype images on ebay. They are a bit hit and miss in quality. Some print great and others need quite a bit of makeready and trimming with a scalpel. The genuinely original ones tend to print better.

Are you planning to revive stereotyping in Australia? Would definitely be interested in getting some images with an Australian theme. I have an Albion and like to stick with lead as much as possible.

Cliff,
I do some stereotype casting on an easykaster No 3.
I have quit a few boxes of advertising mats from a small town newspaper but, the newest ones are from the early 70’s. The ones out of the 20’s don’t cast as well as the newer mats.
As far as I know there are no mats or paper currently being produced.
I have done some experimentation using RTV rubber from the pewter casting industry, but I have not found the correct processes yet. If I can get the RTV to work successfully it will allow me to use non computer type faces for debossing with out destroying the original type.
If some one out there has any mats close to northern Colorado they don’t need, I would be interested in talking.

Don

like Don, I’ve done some experiments with stereotype casting… but only at a rudimentary level. I had my best success using thick commercial blotter paper as a mat, and deep impressing it.

As far as anyone using it in their shop, I don’t know of any.
