Press Identification

Hi,

I am trying to identify this press. On the pictures it is without brake on the wheel and table/s.

Looks pretty German to me, especially with the ink-disk-within-a-plate. The double-form and ductor roller is a bit like later Hohners. The press doesn’t look much worn, but the paint looks new, and done rather well.
Does it really matter exactly what brand it is? For a treadle press it is an advanced design.

You’re right - the guy, who owned it earlier said that it could be a german one but he wasn’t sure. It was restored so it runs and everything works in rather good condition.

The brand is not 100 percent important but I am curious about the history of this machine. I don’t even know how old it is - somewhere between 1900-1940 ?

Kirchman, Sir/Madam, maybe a complete Red Herring so Apologies in advance. The pictured plate was removed from a machine that I purchased at auction in about 1974, on behalf of a friend.
The plate was removed whilst renovating and unfortunately not replaced.
The machine still exists, in Sussex, U.K. but unfortunately has been *mothballed* for 25 yrs for sentimental reasons by the Wife of the Late owner.
The shots posted herein look very familiar, but maybe irrelevant, but in any case even a brief trawl of the info sites, may provide links to other avenues, for Printing Press makers in Germany. Almost certainly pre WW 2??
The locality of BAUTZEN, the time scale indicated, (as far as determinable) and the geographical situation make interesting reading, and may just provide even a tiny clue?
Apologies and Good Luck.!!

Good Luck.

Dear Mick,

I’m not native so I’m not sure if I understood everything properly but if you’ve got any interesting links “for Printing Press makers in Germany” please paste it here. I’d be very gratefull for that.

I see a pre WW2 European, probably a German, “Boston” press here. I’m not at home these days, but when I’m back at the office I will take a look in my books. Where are you located? If it’s possible to find the manufacture I will be very interested in your original photos and a permission to upload them in my personal online museum on flickr – others might have an interest in the future :-)

Kirchman, Friend, soon as possible/practical will (With Permission) access substantial archives, on all things letterpress and see what I can turn up, on your behalf.
May be a little while, but S.A.P… .I have donated some material, but unfortunately, as yet, NONE in chronological order.!!! …My learning curve is rising so IF I uncover anything relative, I can probably post/paste etc. and learn!! Regards Mick.
