New to this Kelsey Q
Hi all,
I’ve been given a Kelsey Mercury Excelsior Model Q and I “think” all the pieces are there, but I’m having issues with the rollers that came with the press, but were unattached. They don’t fit/stay put and at this point I’m wondering if they are even the correct rollers for the press.
The press without rollers appears to operate smoothly, but when the rollers are in, they don’t clear the ink table. It’s like the arm that holds the rollers doesn’t extend easily. The trucks for the rollers are plastic and one of them doesn’t fit well at all. I’ve also got what looks like metal trucks, but they don’t fit so well, either (I have pics but seems to have trouble attaching them here.)
I’ve been researching and researching and there’s little to no info on saddle style roller carriages, and I’d really appreciate some help—thanks so much!
If the roller cores are about the same diameter as the hooks and both ends of the cores engage the hooks the rollers should work, assuming they don’t touch each other when installed in the hooks. If the trucks are the same diameter as the rollers, but don’t fit the cores (too big or too small a bore) you can shim them to fit more snugly if too big or bore the holes out to the diameter of the cores if too small. The trucks should hold the rollers about type-high off the bed and the trucks should transfer them to the ink disk smoothly. If not be sure you have the bed of the press correctly installed.
For photos be sure they are small in file size and the file names are only alphabetical or numerical with no special characters except periods between file name and photo type, which should only be .jpg.

Thank you so much Bob for your quick response—I really appreciate the help! It is a saddle style roller carriage. The rollers don’t function smoothly even when the chase is uninstalled. Unfortunately, I’m still having trouble attaching pics.
If you have access to Microsoft Paint or a similar simple photo editing program, try loading the photos into it, sizing them smaller (select “resize” and a smaller percent than 100%) and save them with a very simple different filename and just a .jpg extension. Something like “photo1.jpg”, then upload that. BP automatically resizes them to their own file size but does not recognize very large files or file names with different characters or extensions,
I am not totally clear about the “saddle” roller hooks, but all should be for the same diameter cores and the separation between roller hook centers should be greater than the roller diameter; it may be that the springs are not correct or correctly installed and not permitting the rollers enough travel as they ride up and down the rails. Or if you wish send the photos to me via BP; I am glad to help any way I can.
