Hello, all! I am trouble-shooting a “banding” of impression across the width of my Vandercook #3. As the cylinder rolls, there are about 2-3 inches across the form of heavier impression, followed by about 2-3 inches of lighter impression (printing on clean, good type cast by the Bixlers). I have repacked the cylinder with brand-new typman, and have mylar as a top sheet. Inking rollers are properly set, and the press bed is clean and free of debris. I believe this indicates that I finally need to adjust the cylinder itself. For those who have done this, may I ask you for suggestions? I have a set of feeler gauges—should I roll the press to where the light spot seems to be, and work to make the adjustment there? Or is an adjustment better done at the middle of the press? Suggestions? Thank you! (I have Paul’s manual—3rd edition!—and I see various suggestions there, too!). I’m not in any rush, but also want to make sure I’m not working against myself as I attempt to make this adjustment.
Best practices and suggestions welcome.
Thank you!
Andrew
