Chicago Typefoundry

Looking to ID this typeface. Pin mark Chicago Typefoundry 28. I’m thinking this is Marder & Luce, but not in any catalog I found, nor in ATF Big Red. Also there are two sizes here, but I think they’re the same set? Matching nicks, and they fit in the decorative caps mortices.

This is Banquet. Patented by the Chicago Type Foundry (also called Marder, Luse) in 1889. Designed by William F. Captain. Attached is an image from the 1890 CTF specimen book. It was also shown in early ATF catalogs. It could also come with some fancier initials which neither you nor I have. It’s a challenge to set with the two odd sizes, but looks wonderfully ugly when set right.

Thank you!

Here’s the specimen from the US design patent 19380 issued October 29, 1989. Bob’s identification and specimen made this easy to look up.
