Keep the fonts together! Please don’t try to sell them as single units. There’s not near enough demand for individual pieces of type to offload that whole collection, and once you start doing it, you render the collection largely worthless to printers who would use it as intended.
Your best bet is trying to sell to local printers who could pick up the cases (drawers) as-is to clean, sort, and use as they like. Where are you located?
Your other option is to carefully sort and arrange each drawer into a font stored neatly in a small box and packed well for shipping. (e.g., https://www.etsy.com/listing/4542349249/garamond-bold-italic-30pt-small-...). Please avoid just dumping all of the type into a bag. It risks damaging the type and reduces the price you can reasonably ask.
Alternatively, you can get into printing!
My sense is that you can command the highest asking price (approx. $60-100 per font) if the type is clean, sorted, in good condition, complete, and labeled with the correct typeface and point size. Anything else (e.g., mysterious bag of type) will be valued less. If it’s a rare or in-demand typeface, the value goes up, of course. Based on the photos you shared, the typefaces aren’t all that scarce, but the fonts do look like they’re in very good shape. (And the type cases also seem to have held up well!)
thanks for the info. no intention of separating them. hoping to find a local printer. the drawers are located in Chino,CA. it’s about an hour from Down Town Los Angeles. I’m helping my friend remotely. I do want to find someone to take it all. viewing can be arranged.
Basically there are two good choices.
1) Remove the type from the cases and pack well in sturdy boxes as previously mentioned for sale. You can sell each font individually, or if you have “runs” of a specific face you can try and sell them together. Then sell the type cabinets separately.
2) Sell the type and cabinet together.
