C&P 10x15 rollers not rolling
Hi everyone,
I’ve finally got new rollers for my C&P 10x15 Old Style press!
They aren’t rolling along the bed rails. I’ve seen this mentioned here a few times, but was hoping to get some specific help.
The plastic rollers on each side are the correct diameter.
However, the double saddles on both sides of the roller holders are loose. The pins that hold the saddles to the springed rod are bent. And the pins appear to be riveted or somesuch? They don’t look easy to remove.
Would tightening up the springs be a next step or building up the rails?
Or! Do I need to refurbish the saddles so they aren’t loose?
Any advice is most welcome. Much appreciated!
Erik
Did you measure the core diameter of the roller cores and the hook inside diameter? At a guess the cores are a bit snug in the saddles; another possibility is that the saddles are twisted a bit, but that seems less likely. It could also be that the plastic trucks are too slippery - if you can find a rosin bag such as baseball pitchers use and rub the rails and the trucks with that it may solve your problem.
If you’re able to post a short video that might help solve the problem. I would first suggest to oil the saddles where the roller shafts sit. I also second the rosin suggestion, but first make sure the rails are clean (no oil residue, etc.) and then maybe add some UHMW or masking tape to the rails to get better traction against the delrin trucks.
You shouldn’t need to refurbish the saddles unless they’re in really bad shape and binding up against your roller shafts (typically from decades of no oil.)
Keep us posted.
