Lewis Mitchell & Kenny Howard

M & H Type

Established in San Francisco in 1915. In 1924 it was renamed Mackenzie & Harris. For decades M&H Type provided composition for advertisers as well as type for the great printers of the day: Nash, Taylor & Taylor, Grabhorn Press, Kennedy, and others. In 1989, Andrew Hoyem of Arion Press acquired the foundry. Today, it is the oldest and largest fully functioning typefoundry and Monotype composition service in the U.S., featuring typefaces in over 3,000 styles, weights, and sizes, as well as an extensive collection of borders and ornaments.
