Founded in 2007 by writer and poet laureate, John Yau at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, Black Square Editions is a literary and visual arts press featuring poets Joseph Donahue, Thomas Meyer, and most notably, John Ashbery.

In 2008 a suite of screen prints by painter, Chuck Webster were published. Several were auctioned to support the Brooklyn Rail, a monthly art and literature journal, where Yau serves as art director.

Black Square is operated by Kevin McCabe.
