Bell Type and Rule Company

The Bell Type and Rule company has been family owned and operated since 1932. The company’s founders were Carl and Evelyn Bell. Originally located on 14th Street in Los Angeles, the type foundry operated seven days a week and was a premier supplier to printers of the city. Over twenty five years ago Harley Bell (son of Carl and Evelyn) moved the company to its current location. More than twenty years ago, Harley and David teamed up to continue the tradition of casting foundry type, Monotype composition, spacing materials, rules and borders and Ludlow typesetting for the letterpress arts.
