Processing plastic and metal backed plates

Hi, We recently purchased an Anderson Vreeland Orbital VIII platemaker for our shop and are ready to make plates. However, we use both plastic and metal backed plates. Our question is whether it is possible to process both types of plates using one mount in the platemaker. If so, would it be better to use the green adhesive gummy mount or the magnetic? Thanks in advance, Rachael T.

You can use the magnetic platen for processing steel-backed plates and attach a steel-backed green PVC carrier sheet to it whenever you need to make polyester-backed plates. Anderson & Vreeland can make up a steel-backed PVC carrier sheet for you. A hint in advance. Rust proof the back of it with a water-based rust inhibitor like Rust Bandit followed by a coating of Lemon Pledge.

Hi Gerald,

Thank you for the prompt response and information. Just to clarify, the PVC carrier sheet attaches magnetically to the magnetic platen when needed? -Rachael

Rachael

Correct.
