Typography using Photopolymer Plates

24-26 September, 2010

Those who take part in this workshop will carry out their own projects, from digital composition of the text, to the creation of polymer matrices, to printing and binding an edition on handmade and mouldmade papers. Each participant will receive a copy of each of the works printed and bound during the course.

Alessandro Zanella offers this course in his private printing studio, Ampersand, in the hamlet of Santa Lucia ai Monti. Its spectacular location, near the town of Valeggio sul Mincio, is set in rolling vine country just south of Lake Garda, 20 kilometres south west of Verona. There are comfortable, modestly-priced accommodations in Santa Lucia ai Monti—a mere 150 metres from Zanella’s printing workshop.

The only requirement is basic familiarity with the use of the computer, as the matrices are prepared digitally. Instruction on the making of negatives, creation of plates, printing on a hand-operated cylinder press, and basic binding techniques
will be given.

The workshop takes place over three days, for a total of at least 24 hours.
The course is strictly limited to 6 participants.

Cost is 550.00 Euros, which includes all materials.
Deadline to register: 1 September, 2010.
