Georg Kraus

It’s with great sadness that I have to announce that Georg Kraus from the Preussisches Bleisatz Magazin in Germany has passed away on July 22, 2010. Georg did undergo an operation on Monday, but complications during and after led to his death. Georg supplied printers and typesetters in Europe and the USA with some of the finest material and, through his blog, with some fine material for thought as well. His death will leave a void.

Thomas, I am also very saddened to learn of Georg’s death. We spoke only a week before the operation. Georg was in a reflective mood. He said he felt out of place in this time, that he felt he was really an early twentieth century man. Well, I for one am glad that we crossed in time and I feel privileged to have known him, even though briefly - clearly he has touched and enabled many printers over the years. There is a sense of loss of so many discussions about the craft of printing that we will not have.
Georg, wir geben Sie zurück ins Blei.

The death of Georg Kraus is a big loss for his family and the world of letterpress printers. He was a great source of inspiration and he will be missed.
