Aussie Just Ordered Myself the Adana 5x8

Hi Everyone

I just ordered myself an Adana 5x8 press from the UK after scouting many websites and here for the last couple of week’s.

Im hoping i got myself a good starting press to learn on and have booked myself in for some training over the next month with a letterpress museum in Penrith,Western Sydney .

I guess my next move would be to order myself a Boxcar Base to go with my press for when it arrives.

Id love any tips and tricks from other Adana user’s since im sure most have had steep learning curves as well when learning to letterpress.

I found some great blogs through here which made for some great reading and knowledge on the craft. Im hooked from all the visuals and im sure once i get my hands on some lead and plates ill be having a blast.

I tried to drag the photos off ebay but couldn’t seem to …….so here is the link .

Are you able to point me in the direction of the training course you mention in Penrith? Im at a loss of where to start too! (and am in Aus)

Davina

Hi Davina , get in contact with the Penrith printing museum they run classes each month , so i booked myself for 2 classes at this stage . I also read about another guy out near bathurst that could be worth a road trip to get some more training for us just starting .

cheers

Have a look at the blog of Small Caps in Berlin (in German and in English). She has started with an Adana not soo long ago and has good photos.

Hi, Davina,
I’m that “guy out near bathurst” that Brett above mentioned. Check out my advt sin Briar Press.
The course for beginners is 101, and held first weekend of every month. Bookings taken well in advance. Many students have now passed through, and are quite happy with their success.
I have several different platens, inclusing the one you are buying. My courses are comprehensive for the beginner, giving the beginner much confidence, when completed.
William Amer, Rockley

HI William , glad you popped up on this thread .I will email you about 101 and head out for a course in the next month or two.

cheers
Brett

Good onya Brett.
No need to re-invent the letterpress wheel, good instruction is worth the investment
The time and cost will save heaps in the long run and you are then able to call on my help and advice as part of a mentoring service.
Looking forward to your call.
William of Rockley

Thank you for this post. I am considering the Adana and have limited experience with letterpress.
