Roller needed for Chicago #10

My roller is badly deteriorated. It is 4 3/8 long and about 7/8 diameter. Where can I get a new roller? Does anyone have a guess what this press is worth. Everything works and includes the chase.

Hi Marsh,
I may have one here for you, do you have the trucks?
It is important to measure the diameter of the trucks to ensure the correct roller diameter for that lovely machine, then it will print nicely for you.
Let me know, I would like to help, that lever press will surprise even the most ardent enthusiasts.
Thank you!

Marsh, check the yellow pages on this site. Tarheel Roller Co, there are others also. I think NA Graphics sells rollers and trucks. That name 50 year letterpress, does that mean your 50 years old, or you’ve been printing letterpress for 50 years, or its been 50 years since you printed letterpress? Good Luck Dick G.

dickg, 50 years means I have been doing letterpress for 50 years. Not all this time was spent printing, but have had the equipment all that time. Busy for a few years when I was younger, raised a family and during that time I idled my C&P 10 x 15 as I could not live with having one of my kids get their hand in that thing. Eventually sold it and bought a C&P 6 1/2 X 10 hand lever and still have that press. It is still like new (1970). I did check NA Graphics, but they did not have any rollers for anything smaller than 10 x 15 C&P. / Marsh

Girl with a kluge, I have the original trucks, but they have tape on them to build them up as the roller swelled. It is unusable now as it has gotten full of cracks. 50 years ago I used that press a lot for business cards, it does a nice job. / Marsh

Marsh, most roller companies will take your old rollers and recast them, don’t know where you are there are still a fair amount of roller companies. 50 years in letterpress, your a lot older than me, this is only my 49th year. Good Luck Dick G.

Marsh,

Ramco Rollers should be able to do what you need — and for a fair price. Just send in your old rollers and trucks and they’ll recover in the correct diameter (taking into account any wear to the trucks).
