Unusual C&P OS Parts

Hello,

I have a question for anyone out there with a Chandler & Price Old Style press. I’m working on restoring mine, which is a 10X15 dating from 1887 and found out that some of the parts on mine are sort of unusual.

First, my ink disc bracket is three parts. Two pieces which bolt to each side of the frame and one that bolts into these and lays across the top of them. This is the piece into which the ink disc is inserted. If the uploaded picture is too small, you can also look at it at

Second, the gripper cam doesn’t look like any other gripper cam I’ve seen. I thought it might be a homemade replacement, but it has a serial number on it.

So I’m curious, does anyone else have parts like this? Were they repairs, or were they manufactured by Chandler & Price? If you have them, are they working?

Thank you, any information or history would be appreciated.

Best,

Marianne

That ink disc bracket looks similar to what you would find on a Chandler and Price Pilot tabletop. This is a very early press and it could be that this was the initial design. I’m not sure though. Same with the gripper cam—looks awfully flimsy, but it could be the early designs.

Thank you for the input. I’d be really interested to hear if anyone else has a press with these same parts. I’ve been searching images on the internet, and haven’t seen them anywhere else.
