HISTORY: This Letterpress was originally used by our family in Oklahoma City in an athletic club in the 1930s and 1940s where it was used to print fliers and mailings for the business. In 1947, Coach & Norma Walker brought the Letterpress to Gold Hill, Colorado, where he purchased a parcel of land and started Trojan Ranch, a magical place in the mountains that has served as a children’s summer camp where young people build skills and confidence through wholesome outdoor activity and a positive connection with nature, each other, place and camp community. Coach continued to use the letterpress for Ranch printed material. After he graduated to a lithograph, the letterpress was stored at the ranch until today. In September 2010, one of the largest wildfire’s in Colorado History swept through the ranch, claiming part of the property. The letterpress survived, but the lead letters, rollers, motor and all accompanying parts burned in the blaze. The Fourmile wildfire burned about 30 of the Ranch’s 160 acres, taking a few buildings and trees and thankfully leaving the Heart of Camp - the Lodge- and the children’s and staff cabins and the Camp Office. Camp will resume this summer with rebuilding efforts continuing. Proceeds from the sale of this letterpress will be used to help with rebuilding and running the ranch.
