Ink Mixing Platform

Just discovered what we think is a perfect glass platform for mixing ink: a 12x12x4” glass “tile” block from Home Depot for $18.65. It has a ledge/lip around its perimeter and it cleans up like brand new.

What do other printers use?

Hi Yombe,

Is this the one you mean? Perhaps the price is for a case of them.

12” x 12” would be too small for me, since I’m not the neatest ink mixer and since I generally place my ink cans and knives on the glass along with the ink. What I use is the glass from an old fireplace door. It’s about 20” x 20”, 1/4” thick, tempered, with polished edges, and it was free. I put it on a white towel so the ink colors are easy to see.

I use a piece of white acrylic or plexiglass, nice smooth surface and white. When the remnants dry, they peel right off!

Lately i weigh my ink on a piece of copy paper then use a piece of chipboard that is white on one side to mix it on, before this i always used the bottom of a galley. Dick G.
