8th grade diploma project

I’d like to invite you to see a new project we had a great deal of fun doing at Lead Graffiti in Newark, Delaware.

We’ve wanted to do a diploma for a while and a teacher at the Waldorf School of Philadelphia took us up on it. The students offered design ideas and calligraphy which we used to create the final diploma.

The students came down to our studio for a day, did pastepapers which we used to wrap the portfolio case, used photopolymer to print the main text on the diplomas, and handset their names in metal type which they then printed on their own diplomas.

The project was modeled on the system used for the Nobel Prize certificates which include an original piece of artwork.

Each of the students (there were 10) produced a piece of artwork and each classmate contributed an element which was included in the portfolio.

We thought the project turned out quite wonderful.

The look on the student’s faces when we arrived with the diplomas said everything we needed to hear.

You folks amaze. That is a visibly joyous project. I love it.
