Giant Squid Press is looking for an intern/apprentice to assist them in the day to day operations of running a successful graphic design and specialized letterpress printing studio.
We are looking for motivated and creative designers and/or illustrators to help us with print layouts (posters, business cards, menus, wedding invitations, greeting cards), portfolio photography, updating our website, helping with social media, letterpress platemaking, letterpress type setting and press maintenance and operation.
We are looking for part-time help, 1 or 2 days a week, not more than 15 hours. This is an unpaid internship, but in return, you learn the craft of letterpress printing (and have the ability to print your own projects)
There is also the possibility of paid freelance work if you show proficiency in design and/or printing.
The ideal candidate(s) will be well versed in Adobe Creative Suite, be creative, and fun, have a keen eye for detail, communicates well on paper and in person, has an enormous interest in antiquated printing technology, a willingness to take the long road for quality rather than the shortcut just to get it done and is eager to get their hands dirty. (That’s not some analogy…we work with ink… its gonna happen)
Some time will be spent on press in the flatiron district as well as in Astoria Queens (willingness to go to both of those places a MUST…sorry, we’re not Brooklyn based)
