Big-Time Fun

Getting ready to get away from it all and step back into the 19th century - sans television, sans computers, etc.

I’ll be camping out for ten days down in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to get Printers’ Hall ready for the annual Old Threshers Reunion which starts on Aug 30 and ends on Labor Day. Printers’ Hall will be fully operational each day and we even pump out an 8-page newspaper daily, printing half of it on a steam-powered Babcock press (from 1900) and the other half on a Model 00 Miehle (from 1906).

The Old Threshers Reunion is a one-of-a-kind wonderland of just about everything mechanically cool. We have two running trains, a half-dozen or more electric tolleys, antique steam traction engines (around 100), antique gas tractors (over 1,000), antique gas engines of about every size and shape, antique cars and trucks, a steam-powered carousel, monstrous stationery steam engines (one weighs over 250,000 lbs.) and so much more. If you are into this stuff, this is THE PLACE to be. And……it all runs!!!!!!!!!!

It gets really crowded during the official reunion and a gate admission is charged. However, if you are anywhere near and can make it by, pretty much everything is in place by the weekend before it starts, and you come come and still be absolutely dazzled.

You can check out this amazing spectacle at www.oldthreshers.org

Stop by our 3,000+ sq. ft printing museum inside Museum B and say Hi.

I should also mention that we will back on September 21 and 22 to host the Midwest and Great Northern Printer’s Fair.
