The Georgia Weekly Newspaper Museum will open to the public Sept. 8 in Homer, Ga. The museum shows how a rural weekly newspaper was produced by letterpress from the late 1800s to the advent of offset in the 1960s. The museum is located at the original site of a community newspaper begun in 1888 and has much of the original letterpress equipment in place. Most of the equipment is being restored to operating condition, including a Campbell Country Press from ca. 1895.
The museum is privately owned by Mainstreet Newspapers, Inc., a family-owned group of six small weekly newspapers in Northeast Georgia.
