Challenge cutter

I’m very excited to have found an old Challenge Paper cutter for sale at a flea market within driving distance. I’m working on building up my shop so that I can quit my job in a year or so and print full time….but now when it comes to spending $300 on this piece of equipment - my trigger finger is a little shaky. Can someone give me some encouragement here?

Does it come with a spare blade? That would be the clincher for me. That cutter looks like a Challenge 19”. I bought a 22.5” cutter 5 years ago for the same $300 and it was well worth it.

Nice thing about Challenge cutters is that replacement blades are easy to find and very reasonable to purchase.

If you expect to be doing a variety of post print cutting work, I’d say you should get this, or something better, say a 26” Challenge, but this would be a good machine if the fence is tight (not able to rock).

i got my 30” challenge for free, it was in a bad fire, cost me around $2,000 to rewire it, another $500 to have it moved, you could always get a new one for about $18,000. I don’t think you can go wrong for the money.
