REGISTER—A FEW SLOTS LEFT! Inscribing Pages:
Letterpress Printing & Bookbinding Megan O’Connell

2 July - 2 August, 2007 Location: Saratoga Springs, New York

Participants ‘inscribe’ a narrative sequence onto the surfaces of pages using both traditional and experimental printing methods. As we compose with type, we address issues of representation and the associative qualities of letterform.

The project of writing as pleasure extends into the profligate. The typesetter—here performing language—amplifies, reiterates, fragments or minimizes passages. Words become loud or soft, printed or blind-stamped, integrated into an overall texture or made to break the weave altogether. The physicality of the binding structure and choice of materials further convey the concept and tone of the custom book.
