One-Week Introductory Letterpress Workshop at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio
June 23-27, 2014 (Registration deadline is May 30)
Create extraordinary posters and prints while learning historic techniques in this introduction to letterpress printing. Engage with antique printing presses using vintage metal and wood type fonts to design and print an edition of fine art or event posters. Learn the ins and outs of hand-setting type and basic typographic design concepts. Work collaboratively and on individual projects, operating and creating on a Vandercook cylinder proof, showcard, and C&P tabletop platen presses. Combine traditional hand-setting type, linoleum carving, and other experimental methods of relief printing. Students will also experience the printed multiple, culminating with a print exchange with everyone in the workshop.
