Slug Rack

This is an all metal spring loaded slug rack that is apparently for holding slugs as they are made. It has bolts on the ends of vertical threaded rods and a spring at each end to keep the separate bars compressed. Is there some other way this is used, and perhaps used as part of a forme?

That is designed for holding Ludlow slugs and allowing direct proofing from the rack. Other Ludlow slug racks were wood and did not allow direct proofing.

Now that I have a Ludlow, and work for it, I sure wouldn’t mind finding a stash of those racks.
