American Typecasting Fellowship 2021 Conference

For those of you who might not be familiar with it,
the American Typecasting Fellowship is a group of
friends and enthusiasts which for over four decades
has been at the heart of the preservation and continuation
of all aspects of making cast metal letterpress printing type.

Traditionally, we have had a Conference every other year.
In this time of COVID, the Conference that was to have been in 2020 has become an online-only virtual Conference in 2021. It is open to anyone seriously interested in typecasting in any form (including linecasting). We’re reaching out to all
friends of typecasting to invite you to attend.

It is coming up soon: Saturday July 31 and Sunday August 1.
There is a link on the ATF website’s Conference registration
page to the Eventbrite service’s page where the actual registration occurs:

http://www.AmericanTypecastingFellowship.org/registration.html

The Conference is free (there is a suggested donation to help
us offset our costs). The platform will be Zoom.

The program is quite varied. Planned presentation topics
include English Monotype punchcutting, the state of typecasting in Europe and developments in the USA,
Cyrillic type, brass type, matrix making and duplication,
some type foundry history, typecasting machinery in
the Far East, troubleshooting Monotype operation, casting foundry-style matrices on the Super Caster, shop-made tools and a couple of workshop tours. While our group’s name says “American,” it has always been international. Two of our presenters are from Canada and four are from Europe.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the
organizers at [email protected]

If you are interested in becoming involved with casting metal type, please consider attending.
