Disassembling Vandercook 099

I recently acquired a vandercook 099 which is in relatively good shape but I still plan to give it a good refurbish. I am trying to take it apart and cannot get the ball grips off. Do these come off separately, or do they come off with the adjacent nut? All the refurb photos I have seen seem to exclude the photos of these ball grips. Thanks for any advice!

There may be Loctite on the threads of the tie bar and ball knob. If you damage the knob, you can find a standard replacement.
I prefer to leave factory settings alone unless it’s absolutely necessary to disassemble.

What are the brackets used for, it has two.

Thanks Rowdy. The office press census is updated, it stands at 149, but I suspect the actual number is much higher.
