lever-style Vs. normal tabletop

Hi

I am a newbie and studying almost everyday with this website :) Very helpful site!
I was planning to buy Adana 8X5 tabletop press from either Caslon or Adanashop in UK, but after I read lots of comments, I realized tabletop press normally not gives a deep impression than huge floor press.
I have couple of questions. (Sorry if those questions are alreay posted somewhere, maybe I am not getting there yet)

1. Are “lever” press machines (like C&P Pilot) give better (deep) press than 8X5 Adana or Kelsey?
2. And I will mainly use poly plate for printing. Can you recommend a platemaking machine? (Smaller machine is better since I am living in a small apartment)
3. Anyone sell “lever-style” tabletop letterpress machine? (I live in Oakland, CA)

Thank you,

B

Look in the Briar Press Museum section under lever presses. Those shown run the gamut in size and style. All are lever presses. In general, the larger the press (chase) size the stronger the impression. Deep impressions can be attained by packing as well as impression adjustments. Too much pressure on a small press to achieve a deep impression can break the press.

Letterpress Preservation or Dave Churchman may have one for sale. There is a guy named Lou who has so many of them he is going to have to build his own airport to store them all. All Things Letterpress or any of the other fine companies listed in the directory can help you.

Thank you for all great comments!
