Heidelberg Continuous Feeding

Hello -

I am having a bit of a problem with my Heidelberg. The trip suction knob is no longer tripping the suction, so the press is feeding even when the trip suction knob is pulled all the way out. There is no difference between the two positions (in/out) and the press feeds continuously.

It seems like a mechanism inside the trip suction knob might be broken. The knob now twists slightly to the left and right. When pulled out (trip) it does not stay in place and moves back toward the press about an 1/8 in. If I pull the knob all the way out and hold on to it while the press is running there is no change. Press continues to feed.

Any suggestions how to fix this? I greatly appreciate your help!

Hi May,

I’d check the trip pawl and the plunger behind/below the big silver button.

This can be done by manually advancing the press with the suckerbar valves closed and the trip button pushed in for auto stop.

As the assembly rises, the vacuum should pull the plunger and pawl back away from the trip lever. When the assembly rises to its peak, the flapper on the bottom opens releasing the vacuum, which should allow the plunger to slide out and the pawl to tip back toward the flywheel and trip lever.

I’m guessing the pawl or the plunger is sticking. If the plunger is sticking, I’d try spraying some WD40 behind the disk on the end of the trip adjusting screw… back the screw all the way out and you should see a gap where the straw for the wd40 can get in. Then I’d work the plunger and pawl to ensure free movement. The plunger should extend until vacuum pulls it back along with the pawl.

Chime back for more.. if needed, I can shoot a bit of video.

Further thoughts:

If the press also continues to pick up sheets with the knob pulled out, the flapper may not be opening properly, or debris has gotten in and plugged the port.
