What do I have here.

Can somebody please tell me what this tool is. I was in a box with a bunch of numbering head items so I an assuming it has something to do with numbering heads

I’m curious as well. I have one in my tool drawer that came with my GTP. Haven’t figured out a use for it yet.

It is a numbering machine vise. It is used when working on a machine to keep it firmly held while pulling the shaft to add skip wheels, etc.

Thank you John.
If anybody is interested it is for sale.
I also have this other clamp type mechanism for sale pictured in this post. I also do not have a clue what this is either. My best guess would be a type clamp but I really do not know.

That looks a lot like one of my composing sticks. Is the solid end at an angle or is that a distortion of the image?

The outside edge is marked in pica and the movable clamp has little teeth that lock into the holes on the other edge.

I tried photographing mine and I am sure that that end is distorted.

I would venture that they are identical, and sorry for the triple post.

No Problem Zwack. Thank you for confirming my guess. The clamp arms are at right angles. You are correct that the camera and the angle distorted the image.

I too have a comp stick like that. In passing, comp sticks were the comps property, not the masters. And a few other tools as well. It was common for the master to present a new one (oh for one of Cornerstone’s best), if the lad had behaved himself and done well in his exams, that would be at the end of his ‘time’ when he got ‘banged out’. And called ‘mister’ all over the place the following day!!’
