Heidelberg Windmill press receiving tray
When the receiving tray gets too much weight on it, it just drops, causing the feeder tray to raise suddenly feeding multiple sheets as a result causing a wreck. Is there any adjustment to allow for more weight in the receiving tray?
Albert,
Have you tightened the clutch wheel under the delivery tray? Normally when the clutch wheel is released the delivery tray doesn’t drop and needs a bit of assistance.
A hand wheel under the delivery on the right side has to be tightened. NOT TOO TIGHT. Snug it up. If it still falls you may have a clutch issue. There is a spring in there to allow gear to slip over itself.
papercut64 is most likely on the right track saying that there could be a clutch issue with the delivery. It could be that the spring is weak or a more likely cause could be that the clutch is dirty.
Loosen the handwheel for the delivery clutch and take it all the way off the shaft. Then remove the outer drum of the clutch that the handwheel presses on. The inner part of that drum will be tapered to meet the inner drum. Take some solvent and clean both surfaces of the drums and then reassemble.
If oil and funk gets on the clutch surfaces, it can cause the clutch to slip and let the delivery suddenly drop. I have seen it on my windmills, so every now and them, I will clean the clutch as regular maintenance.
If the spring isn’t broken, you can clean that too while things are apart. If the clutch still slips after cleaning, you might try stretching the spring a LITTLE bit to see if that solves your issue.
