Crown-format manually operated flatbed offset litho press

My Littlejohn press is about as venerable as I am; but it might be lucky enough to have many decades of happy printing ahead…. This is where you come in.

Operation of this crown-format (15” x 20”) flatbed offset litho press is entirely manual: a roller wrapped in a litho blanket is cranked across a platen supporting an inked plate, acquiring the image, and then across another platen, depositing the ink on the paper. Subsequently the roller is stopped from rotating, so that it clears both platens as it is cranked back to its starting position.

I believe that this press dates from the 1950s and was designed for proofing zinc plates. However, it is ideal for polyester plates and, in my view, much more controllable than an etching press: so controllable that it is rumoured to be able to print on glass, if that turns you on. (I have to admit that I never got round to trying my luck).

It is a substantial and very accurate machine made by a reputable British manufacturer, and was in pretty good condition when I acquired it around 20 years ago; it is now refurbished and fully working.

I am including a roll and a half of polyester plate and a bespoke height gauge which makes it easy to adjust the inking and printing pressures.

Asking price: GBP 2,500

Collection from Essex, UK. This is a heavy press, but it can be dismantled into sections, the heaviest of which can be moved by two strong persons. There is level access from my print studio to the road.

BTW, I am also selling a large amount of letterpress type, wood letter, and printing accessories.
