1080PRESS, a poetry publisher and print shop based in Kingston, New York, is accepting applications for a Summer 2026 internship. This position offers hands-on experience in a collaborative print production environment, working directly with the publisher and printer.
Position Overview:
The intern will assist with the daily operations of the print shop, supporting both production and administrative functions. 1080PRESS publishes poetry collections and produces artist and photography books, frequently collaborating with clients to realize custom book projects. The studio also participates in book fairs and events throughout the summer and fall, with opportunities for the intern to assist as available.
Key Responsibilities:
. Assist in the operation of print and bindery equipment, including the Vandercook Universal 1, Kensol Foil Stamper, Ryobi 3302 two-color offset press, perfect binders, and a Martini book sewing machine
.Support order fulfillment, including packing and shipping
.Perform website updates and basic administrative tasks
.Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace
.Contribute to general shop operations as project needs evolve
Qualifications:
Prior printmaking or press experience required
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities
Demonstrated interest in publishing, printmaking, or artist books
Training will be provided on equipment and workflows specific to 1080PRESS.
Schedule and Duration:
Two days per week, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
June 2026 (start date TBD) through early October 2026
Must have reliable transportation to Kingston, NY
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship. Travel expenses and lunch will be provided. After demonstrating safe and independent operation of equipment, the intern may be granted access to the shop for personal projects.
