Selling a Kelsey Excelsior 3x5 (Meriden, Conn.) with a good quantity of type and accessories. Honest disclosure up front: I bought this at auction intending to learn letterpress and never did, so I’ve never inked it and I’m not the person to answer technical questions — I’ll let the photos do the talking and I’m happy to take more of anything you want to see.
What I can tell you:
All major castings appear present: frame, handle, platen, ink disc, roller hooks/arms and springs. Press is currently partially disassembled. I don’t see cracks anywhere, including around the handle linkage, but please inspect the photos and judge for yourself.
No rollers or trucks in the lot.
6 cases of type: wooden job cases plus two Kelsey plastic cases. Multiple sizes, mostly what looks like text sizes; quantity is substantial but I can’t identify the faces. Also leading, spacing, brass/copper thins, and some furniture.
Two forms locked up in C-clamps and a couple of small chases.
Located in Hollidaysburg, PA (16648). No shipping — this is a local pickup lot, but I’ll deliver free within ~45 minutes (State College, Altoona, Johnstown, Bedford). $650 OBO for everything. Happy to send additional photos or video of any specific part.
