One pound black molasses; half-pound brown sugar; touch of alum; two ounces glycerine; two pounds hide glue. Mix well, heat to 200F, pour into prepared mould. Age prior to press use. Doesn’t get less expensive than that. (Adjust glycerine for ambient temperature.)
