Boxcar Photopolymer?

I’ve used both the regular boxcar plates (94FL) on a C&P 8.5X10 and switched to the deep relief (KF152) on a C&P 6.5X10). Throughout both of the printings I found problems with the consistency of printing.

I have read A LOT regarding opinions, plates, etc. on briarpress.org but now is the time for fact…

Do the photopolymer plates provide enough CLEAR impression for debossing?

Should I rely on Magnesium plates for my jobs?

I am interested to hear everyone’s comments.

Thank you,

Gregory

Gregory,

I think you’ll find that the Boxcar plates do indeed provide excellent clarity and impression. It may take some time to get your press setup to deliver the best results, but it’s very possible. Take a look at Boxcar’s Flickr page and you’ll see the work they have printed using their bases and plates.

Hope that helps,

Gregory,

I have used photopolymer for 5 years and have not had any problems and have used Boxcar plates. When I did notice any problems on press it was not the plates but rather my own setup, which would be over inking, packing, or I used the wrong font within a typeface.

I would suggest reading Gerald Lange’s book, Printing digital type on the hand-operated flatbed cylinder press

You may be using the correct typefaces, however, this book is a great addition if this is one of the challenges you’re having on press.

Good luck,
