Challenge Proof Press

Hello all,
I recently aquired a Challenge Proof Press style 1425E serial number 1209. I am looking for information on the press. I know about the Vandercook site but most of the information therein pertains to later models like the 15MP.

Do any members have knowledge of, experience with, specifications of, or manuals on this specific model?

All replies appreciated. Regards, -Clay

Clay, do you want your press added to the Challenge census? Where are you located?

Hello Clay,
What did you pay for the press, if you don’t mind my asking? I am in the process of picking one up right now and was wondering if I got a fair price. How have you been liking the press? Thanks!
Leland

I have a very similar Challenge proof press, a style 1425C.

Paul, is there any information on this style in that publication?

Oh, and I paid $200 for it at the Museum of Printing in North Andover, MA. It is cleaning up quite nicely.

Don Black has one of these for sale and is wanting $600 for it last time I talked to them. Here’s the link:

lelandrr,

Mine was free…I just had to move it. It has a broken crank handle because a previous mover was inexperienced. I am really tight on space and fear I may have to sell it before I spend anytime printing on it…but trying to avoid that! -Clay

I own a 1425E that I got for $100 in Charleston, WV. I am still doing a bit of fine tuning but I have gotten favorable results so far. I am glad to know there are others out there using the same press!

Hello all! I have a 1425E also and I am looking for any information I can get on how it works—particularly—is there a paper grip? Where is it / how does it work? Thanks!!

I am picking up a Challenge proof press style # 2023KA in good condition. Does anyone know the value of this press?

I found the Challenge in a building that was sold. I took it back to my shop and have cleaned it up. Looks and prints great. I believe these proof presses, restored, should be selling for a price higher than what I am seeing.
