Table top press handle: replace or repair?

Hi All,

I have a Golding Official #4. While it seems to be in working order, the handle is missing. It looks like the shovel hand grip broke and the broken end was ground flat.

Would it be better to have a new hand grip and shovel style handle made, or to find a replacement arm from someone who has a parts press? I’m not in a rush, since I’m more interested in printing than restoration. It would be easy enough to wrap the handle for now, but would like a better solution in the long run.

Thanks,
Lisa

You might be able to adapt a replacement garden implement handle (shovel, spading fork, etc.), which you can probably get at a local hardware store. It will undoubtedly require some re-working of the metal part to make it fit the press arm. If you’re concerned about appearance this may not be a good long-term solution, but it might be better than trying to use the press with the stub handle.
