Listing of topics in Discussion…

NAMES OF TOPIC POSTERS

I’d like to see the names of the people who write the original topic in the discussion group listed. Generally speaking I don’t find it useful to find who the last person to respond is. That is going to change all the time and it would help to be able to connect back to the original and the subject line isn’t enough to me. I couldn’t even find notes I had written because I didn’t remember the Subject.

ABBREVIATIONS

I know this is personal, but I really dislike abbreviations. I get it when you are text messaging on the phone, but with straight forward typing it seems easy enough. The issue is the “2w 1d ago”. Personally, I would either just put the date and time or write it out to “2 weeks 1 day ago”.

NEW

I’ve just figure out how the “New” works which is very, very nice. I think that is a VERY clear indicator that there is something I’ve not read. I think the “2w 1d ago” is even less significant. I think it makes my comments above even more important as the “time ago” adds a lot of clutter that is likely overridden by the ‘New’ listing.

SIGNON NAMES

I’d encourage people to use a signon that helped identify you more (unless you are ultimately paranoid about having your identity stolen and I see little that would indicate this would contribute to it much here). I know that in the listservs I’m on I definitely react to a group of the ‘most serious’ players. Likely I will develop the same here. Actually makes me wonder how many will overlap. My suspicion is not enough.

Updated. Hi Wallflowers,

You & Speaks have really helped clean this place up. Starting from the top:

* I’ve added the original author to the topic list page, so you can easily see who started the topic. By the way, if you want to see all of the topics you’ve started, they’re listed on your profile page: click ‘my account’ on the top right corner of any page to get there.

* I tend to agree with you about the weird-looking time abbreviations, shortened here only because the long form took up too much room. I’ll consider displaying the date/time instead.

* Your comment about usernames deserves its own topic — it’s a good discussion to have.

* Have some bold and italic, on the house.

Thanks. I think the addition of bold and italic add a nice touch when you are thoughtfully writing a topic or reply. I always like to do names of books the correct way.
